Exhibition Dates: January 15 – March 3, 2026 Pazan Gallery is proud to present Quiet Strength: Canadian Light & Landscapes by Kenny Muir, a new exhibition marking the next chapter in our ongoing commitment to artists whose work is grounded in craft, lived experience, and an unmistakable sense of place. There are artists who paint what they see—and then there are artists who paint what they have lived. Kenny Muir belongs firmly to the latter. This exhibition brings together a body of work that is strong, contemplative, and quietly commanding. Kenny’s paintings do not rely on spectacle. Instead, they draw the viewer in through discipline, restraint, and an earned understanding of light. His canvases carry weight—composed with clarity, balance, and a distinctly Canadian sensibility shaped by landscape, weather, and time. Light is central to Kenny’s practice. It is not decorative or incidental; it is structural. It defines form, mood, and memory. Whether illuminating land, water, or the spaces in between, his handling of light feels deeply familiar—recognizable to anyone who has spent time observing the Canadian landscape in its quieter moments. Curatorial Assessment:
From a curatorial perspective, Kenny’s work demonstrates a mature balance between realism and emotional interpretation. His compositions are intentional, his surfaces confident, and his palette restrained yet expressive. Every decision serves the whole. There is no excess—only purpose. What distinguishes this body of work is the presence behind it. Years of service as a Canadian veteran have instilled a sense of patience, resilience, and reflection that carries through each painting. These are works shaped by observation rather than urgency. They ask the viewer to slow down, to look longer, and to sit with what is revealed. This level of integrity—in both process and outcome—is precisely why Pazan Gallery has invited Kenny to join the exclusive group of artists who have exhibited in our gallery space over the past fifteen years. Artist’s Statement "My journey with art began early. In junior high, I was always drawing and sketching. By high school, while many of my peers were choosing shop classes and woodworking, I instinctively gravitated toward art. It was where I felt most at home. A pivotal moment came during a Grade 11 field trip to the McMichael Gallery. I remember sitting on a bench and striking up a conversation with A.J. Casson. To me, it felt like meeting a rock star. That encounter made something click—it was the moment the idea of becoming an artist stopped feeling like a fantasy and started to feel possible. After graduation, reality took over. Living in a small town offered few opportunities to pursue that dream. I moved to St. Catharines and began working in a shipyard, setting art aside for stability. I stayed until one layoff too many pushed me toward an uncertain future. With little hope and few options, I walked into a Canadian military recruiting centre—and found a life I truly loved. That life kept me on the East Coast for fifteen years. Along the way, I married and became a father. Our first son was born in Halifax, though I missed much of his early life due to deployments. When our second son arrived, I knew it was time to step away. Years passed. I returned to Ontario, back to shipyard work, and once again faced layoffs. A job opportunity brought me to Mississauga, and during a difficult period in my personal life, I met someone who gently encouraged me to look again at a blank piece of paper—to believe that I could still create something meaningful. I returned to art slowly: first pastel, then charcoal, and eventually paint. That was about eleven years ago. Since then, I have been painting every day. I don’t dwell on the past or what might have been. I focus on staying positive and improving with each piece. What I create today is the result of years of work, setbacks, heartbreak, and joy. None of it would be possible without the love and support of my wife—my strongest critic and my greatest supporter. This is where I stand now." Why This Exhibition Matters Pazan Gallery is a proud supporter of emerging visual artists in Mississauga and the Greater Toronto Area. We are equally proud to support artists whose lives reflect service, perseverance, and quiet dedication to their craft. Kenny’s continued support of Pazan Gallery, his veteran service, and—most importantly—the strength and integrity of his work made this invitation both natural and necessary. Quiet Strength is not simply an exhibition of paintings; it is a reflection of lived experience translated into light, landscape, and form. We invite collectors, art lovers, and the community to experience this exhibition in person—to spend time with work that rewards patience, presence, and thoughtful looking.
